A Labour Of Love

Introducing our Spring Gatta Collection…

For our spring collection our in-house design team has been working hard to create a unique print that we guarantee you will fall in love with. Here is the story of how the new print developed from a simple idea to an entire capsule collection…

It all started with a coversation between our designer Kelly and company director Helen. Thinking about trends they loved and how to bring something new to our Kit and Kaboodal range this season, they came up with the perfect idea – an exclusive hand-designed print!

The process began with Kelly designing the pattern, Inspired by wild animals, primarily the cheetah. Kelly created simple pencil sketches before playing with wax resist techniques to give a slightly worn quality to the print, making it completely unique.

Once the initial pattern was designed, it was time to add colour. Pastel shades are always a huge trend for spring, so we knew we wanted to use pale, seascape inspired tones, but we wanted to add a Kit and Kaboodal twist to make the pattern and colours exclusive to us.

Helen and Kelly developed four shades guaranteed to work with navy, black, denim and white jeans – and also with each other. The four shades they developed were navy, mint, mauve and dark plum, making a perfect capsule collection to wear all through the spring season and into summer.

The next step was to transfer the print to fabric. In this case a beautiful 100% cotton with a little stretch to flatter and fall perfectly and lightweight enough to breathe in warmer weather. Pure cotton also washes beautifully and is totally adaptable, making it ideal for tees, tunics, dresses and more – a really versatile fabric to work with.

The print was sent to Italy and our fabric was created! We were delighted with the samples and couldn’t wait to rethink some Kit and Kaboodal classics in this wild design.

After much deliberation, Kelly and the four directors finally selected their favourites styles for the collection, settling on our best selling tops the Basic Sweat, St Erme, Jenny and Beth, and then adding some great trousers – the Chloe Louise – and our ever popular skirt – the Boscombe – into the mix.

Styles and colours decided, the collection was complete! The plans were sent to our production team in Italy, which swung into action while back at HQ our marketing team began creating artwork and marketing emails. The new animal inspired collection was branded Gatta, which is Italian for female cat.

Weeks later the eagerly awaited delivery was received and photoshoots were quickly arranged so that they could be listed online, finally going live on our website this week – wahoo!

So many colours and styles have sold and the collection has already been a huge success! So why not explore Gatta now and treat yourself to a piece in readiness for spring . Choose your favourite styles to mix and match the print with your other Kit and Kaboodal classics for a fashionable, on trend, capsule collection.

Lots of love,
